July 13, 2021 – There appears to be a rift in the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club and its plan to take over the United States biker scene by force. The Rooster is crowing and is voicing his displeasure.
Pagan’s former national president Dennis (Rooster) Katona isn’t on board with his successor Keith (Conan the Barbarian) Richter and Richter’s Blue Wave initiative, per sources, and has started his own rival biker club to challenge Richter’s rise in power.
State attorneys disclosed Katona’s new club endeavor in court pleadings related to Rooster’s most recent run-in with the law last week where his lawyers were challenging the return-to-jail order based on health concerns (Katona is said to be battling leukemia). The name of the rival club or any other details surrounding Katona’s freshly-founded biker organization is unknown at this moment. It remains unclear if the Jackals, an offshoot club of dismayed Philadelphia Pagan’s that popped up last spring (reported first by FoxPhilly29’s Dave Schratwieser in April 2020) is the same club Rooster Katona is alleged by authorities to have created.
Richter, 62, grabbed the reins of the Pagan’s MC in late 2017 and declared what he called the “Blue Wave” mandate, an expansion plan to further spread the Pagan’s brand around the country, specifically gobbling up territory on the east coast and southwest region of the U.S. and going to war with any forces that oppose the turf grab. Prior to becoming Pagan’s boss, Richter was the national Sergeant at Arms out of the Long Island, New York chapter and had just complete a long federal prison term for extortion.
The 55-year old Katona will report to a correctional facility in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania at the end of the month to serve the remaining time left on his 2014 drug and racketeering conviction that was reversed by the state supreme court but then reinstated by the U.S. Court of Appeals. According to the sentencing guidelines, he has roughly six months to go before he can be paroled.
Katona was the Pagan’s boss in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His case stems from a 2011 raid of his home where state police found three ounces of cocaine and three ounces of methamphetamine, totaling a street value of $25,000.
Rooster Katona is the founder and owner of East Coast Cycles, a custom motorcycle shop with outlets in Pennsylvania, Florida, Germany and Austria. He was the Sergeant-at-Arms for the Pagan’s Pittsburgh chapter and the club’s national treasurer. Per ATF and DEA documents, Katona rose to become the club’s boss in 2008.
