September 14, 2021 – Years after his heyday on the street as one of the “Kings of New York,” Patio Gang lieutenant Jermaine (Rico) Dixon was murdered in broad daylight last week outside a Comport Inn in the Ozone Park section of Queens in a gangland hit straight out of the movies. Dixon had been out of the dope game since 2000.
The gunmen in the slaying was dressed as an Orthodox Jew in a long black trench coat and black hat commonly worn by Hassidic Jews in the area and had stalked Dixon for hours, pretending to be working on a broken down vehicle in front of the motel Dixon was staying in. The entire incident and lead-up was caught on surveillance videos attached to a number of local businesses.
The 47-year old Dixon was less than a year removed from finishing a two-decade prison stint for murder and drugs. He walked free in October 2020.
Dixon’s brother, Emile, founded The Patio Gang in the early 1990s in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Emile Dixon is serving a life sentence in federal prison for a gangland homicide. The Patio Gang was made up of mostly young men who traced their roots to Jamaican lineage.
