January 2, 2020 — New Orleans underworld figure Christopher (C-Boogie) McCann was killed in a New Years car wreck on South Claiborne Avenue where witnesses said they heard gunfire accompanying a vehicle chase. The 45-year old McCann was a member of the 3NG Gang, sometimes referred to as the 39’ers Crew.
It is unclear if McCann was killed by the impact of the car crash or by gunshots that rang out outside the Big Man Lounge and other establishments along Louisiana Avenue as patrons watched a chase that ended near the corner of Louisiana and South Claiborne. McCann was convicted of drug and racketeering offenses in 2014 and smacked with a 20-year state prison term, however he was released after serving just 26 months. Police found him dead behind the wheel of his pick-up truck after it stuck a utility pole.
The 3NG Gang sprung up in 2009 around the Third & Galvez intersection and with the downfall of the Hankton Family Gang in subsequent years vaulted the 39’ers to the forefront of the Crescent City dope game. McCann was brought down in the same 2013 bust that nailed 3NG boss Kentrell (Slick Black) Hickerson and several of the gang’s top hitmen.
Hickerson made his bones with the 2002 gangland slaying of Calliope Projects shot caller Alex (Slam) Williams, according to court records. 3NG enforcers Tyrone (T-Bone) Knockum and Washington (Big Wash) McCaskill were the government’s star witnesses at Hickerson’s 2016 trial in which Hickerson, 36, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. Washington admitted to his role in eight murders and got a 40-year bid.
