September 13, 2020 – Convicted Philadelphia mafia bookmaker Steve Sharkey is in a beef with reputed Bruno-Scarfo crime family acting boss George (Georgie Boy) Borgesi, according to a new article from local mobologist and award-winning television investigative journalist Dave Schratwieser on his Mob Talk Sitdown website. Schratwieser’s sources claim Sharkey and Borgesi fell out over money and Sharkey has been absent from Philly mob circles for the past year .

Sharkey, 51, pleaded guilty last week to fraud related to a September 2019 case charging him with wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft. One of the two fraudulent scams described in the indictment ended with Sharkey ripping off an investor for $208,000. He faces 6-to-8 years behind bars when he is sentenced in December. His co-defendant in the case, alleged mob associate Anthony (Tony Mortgage) Ambrosia, copped a plea in the summer.

A source tells Gangster Report, the Sharkey-Borgesi beef stems from money Borgesi never saw from the 200K score and he felt he was entitled to. Sharkey has been a member of Borgesi’s crew since Borgesi was named a captain in the 1990s.

Back in 2000, Sharkey was indicted with Borgesi and the entire Philly mob sitting administration in a giant federal RICO case. Sharkey pleaded guilty in that case too and did four years in prison. The 56-year old Borgesi was found guilty in that case alongside Philly mafia don Joseph (Skinny Joey) Merlino. At that time, Borgesi served as Merlino’s consigliere.

Borgesi did 13 years in prison – beating another racketeering case in the process and Merlino, 58, did 12 years in the can before relocating to South Florida upon his release in 2011. Per sources, Borgesi became Skinny Joey’s acting boss in the summer of 2019.
