Saving Face In The Motor City: Highwaymen MC Leader “Scarface Steve” Finds Mercy From Fed Judge, Fast-Tracked For Freedom

November 4, 2021 — Detroit biker gang chief Aref (Scarface Steve) Nagi will be coming home three years early from his 20-year prison sentence for federal racketeering. U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmonds granted the 58-year old Nagi’s motion for an early release this week, citing his shaky health, the COVID-19 virus and an exemplary prison record for her decision.

Nagi, the No. 2 defendant in a sweeping bust of The Highwaymen Motorcycle Club back in 2009, was convicted at trial and originally sentenced to 40 years behind bars. Since his conviction, Nagi successfully petitioned for a sentence reduction. Prior to his arrest, Nagi was The Highwaymen’s national vice president.

Highwaymen MC Godfather Leonard (Big Daddy) Moore was also convicted in the ’09 case. Moore was sprung last year on a compassionate release tied to the pandemic. The Highwaymen are the biggest biker club in Michigan. The club was founded on the Southwest side of Detroit back in the 1950s.
