July 24, 2020 – Speculation on motive varies in the recent murder of Black Mafia Family soldier Chris (Pig) Triplett. Several people close to Triplett believe he was killed over a woman. Others point to a message slaying aimed at BMF bosses Demetrius (Big Meech) Flenory and Terry (Southwest T) Flenory, who have found themselves back in the headlines since the spring.
The 49-year old Triplett was gunned down on Detroit’s Westside July 12. Southwest T Flenory was released from prison in May after 15 years behind bars. Big Meech Flenory is currently waiting on a ruling from U.S. District Court Judge David Lawson on a motion for compassionate release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Triplett grew up with the Flenorys and was one of their most trusted transportation lieutenants in BMF’s heyday of the early 2000s.
Three GR sources claim Pig Triplett was killed in a dispute related to a woman he had been dating. One sources believes the woman may have set Triplett up in the slaying. Three additional sources say Triplett’s murder was tied to BMF rivals wanting to take someone close the Flenorys as a message that their time has past and that new blood runs the street in 2020.
The Flenory brothers founded BMF in Southwest Detroit in 1990 and went on to establish satellite wings across the United States in coming years, essentially becoming the Walgreens of the American cocaine trade at the dawning of the New Millennium. Big Meech, Southwest T, Pig Triplett and dozens of their fellow BMF members and associates were indicted in 2005’s landmark Operation Motor City Mafia case.
Nearly everyone in the bust pleaded out and got prison time. Both Flenory brothers were given 30-year sentences. To this very day, the Flenorys and the BMF organization as a whole reign supreme as hip-hop culture deities, frequently referenced in rap anthems and shouted out on music artists’ social media posts.
Triplett got out from his prison term in 2012. But he was nailed again in 2014 for drug possession when a search of his car by police on a Ohio expressway found two pounds of heroin stashed in his air filter. He was released from his heroin case in 2018.
The BMF crew was considered relatively non-violent, preferring diplomacy to bloodshed as a means of settling disputes. However, that hasn’t stop two BMF button men from meeting grisly deaths in the months and years after they walked free from incarceration. Besides Pig Triplett, BMF soldier Ricardo (Slick Rick) McFarlin, was murdered execution style in a drug transaction gone awry on December 11, 2016 on the Westside of Detroit. McFarlin had just been released two months earlier.
Rapper and actor 50 Cent is producing an upcoming scripted television show on the rise and fall of BMF for the Starz network.
